Anza Borrego Desert State Park, CA

I spent the weekend backpacking the vast desolation of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. It's ruggedness is breathtaking. Dark, winding caves bore deep inside sandy mountains, hot springs bubble up from within the earth's core, and spiny ocotillo plans punctuate the dry, tan landscape. Part of the expansive Colorado Desert, Anza Borrego is the largest CA State Park and the second largest in the Nation. Difficult to access, profoundly immaculate, and full of hidden historical gems, Anza Borrego is the secretive queen of Southern California deserts.
